Ban the veil

The Muslim veil or hijab has become a bone of contention between European countries and conservative Islam. Last week a Saudi cleric presented a solution by issuing a fatwa saying not wearing a veil is allowed in countries where it is banned. ASo why don't all non-Muslim, non-conservative countries this opportunity and ban the hijab pronto? The fatwa can be cited to anyone who has a problem on the grounds that the religion mandates it.

The FSI Scam

Scam, scam, scam!! Havala scam, telecom scam, Telgi scam. We hear of so many scams. But why doesn’t anyone talk about the biggest of them all – the Mumbai FSI scam? By indiscriminately altering the Development Control Rules (DCR) every now and then, the govt. keeps allowing builders to build more and more without regard to the infrastructure constraints. So you have extra FSI for redevelopment of slums, for providing parking to BMC, for redeveloping old buildings, etc, etc. Then there is clandestine dereservation of plots meant for public amenities & allotment of prime plots at throwaway prices in the guise of recreational facilities (whose land use later gets converted). Every now and then they come up with more excuses to grant land to the builders. But no watchdog/NGO seems to have noticed all this!!!!!

Court Vacations

Why do courts need a vacation when there are lakhs of cases pending justice? We kept whining about how our justice system is slow and something needs to be done. Well, this is the easiest thing we could do. The Supreme Court itself has about 2 months of vacations a year and so would other courts. Just do away with that or reduce it see the results!! Or am I missing something?
